Rear view mirrors are an important safety tool; no doubt about it. But for larger, and specialist vehicles, they’re only part of the solution to being aware of what’s going on around you.

Traffic Safe NZ are one of this country’s largest temporary traffic management companies. They’re tasked with keeping drivers and pedestrians safe around hazards ranging from planned road works to the unexpected - including flooding, landslides, water pipe failures, and downed powerlines.

It’s far from an easy task, and often a thankless one for their 300 staff. Despite that, they’re on call 24/7, seven days a week, even on Christmas Day. We reckon they deserve our respect.

Dave Murray Senior Operations Manager at Traffic Safe NZ has a lot of people to protect and nearly 200 trucks on the road. Due to the nature of the work, and equipment they carry, visibility can be a challenge. “There’s a massive blind spot. Drivers also need to be able to see vehicles coming up behind them. And we want to keep everyone safe when we’re setting up cones. Drivers get impatient and it creates stress for everyone.”

Multiple reversing safety kits from TransQuip, solved the issue for Dave and his team. “Trucks have cameras on the work decks and down the back, for manoeuvring. They’re absolutely vital because safety is what we do.”

“We had been looking for camera suppliers. Mike Guy from TransQuip had regularly been in touch, and he came to the party.” Dave said there was also an element on word of mouth, with the truck re-fitters the company works with recommending TransQuip. “Our suppliers found the TransQuip reversing camera and reversing alarm easy to fit.”

TransQuip's 4484 reversing camera and 4460 reversing alarm are their most popular option, with hundreds of kits sold each year.

Now these TransQuip kits have another vital role to play in keeping roads safe and power and water on for Kiwi homes.

Reversing cameras are available with toggle-shift between screens (the most popular option), or quad screens which show views simultaneously – so there’s something to suit every need.
