Cambridge Construction Company wishes they had invested in a Guardian trench shield earlier.

Based in Hamilton, and servicing the greater Waikato, the well-established and respected civil engineering company have over 30 years of industry experience.

When we spoke to them, hands-on directors Chris McCoy and William McPherson were tackling a residential subdivision in Fairview Downs for Tainui Group Holdings.

The soil conditions there, (primarily sandy soils with intermittent clay pans), presented a few challenges. And, with sewer lines up to 5m deep, the Cambridge Construction team needed to have a safe work zone for drain laying.

To solve the issue, CCC purchased a 5m x 2.4m Guardian trench shield and battered the wall to ensure worker safety.

A Cat 325-07 machine was used both to dig the trenches and lift the trench shields into place. Rated at 55 kPa, the trench shield weighs just 1,630kg making it easy to move.

Chris says the benefits of using the trench shield aren't limited to preventing trench collapse, as important as that is. It also gives protection from the weather and sun. I wish we'd had it a long time ago!
