Tackling fires smarter

Fire is a constant risk for a whole range of businesses, and for homes and vehicles – from cars and utes to commercial truck fleets and agricultural equipment including combine harvesters.

Even small fires can quickly turn into a disaster. Tackling flames early, quickly, and effectively is the key to saving lives, assets, property, and livelihoods.

Almost all of of us are aware of the huge value of conventional fire extinguishers. But, on the downside, they can be heavy, and difficult to use - particularly for older people and those with physical challenges. Not only that, but they take up a fair bit of space.

There’s also the tricky decision, for those using the extinguisher, whether that particular one is right for the particular fire being tackled – is the extinguisher OK for cooking fats and oils, electrical, or just your basic wood and plastic fire?

In addition, conventional extinguishers need regular servicing by a qualified person, which adds up, financially, over the extinguisher’s lifetime.

A new generation fire fighter

It’s been a very long time since a fire extinguisher came along that changed everything. Now, it’s here.

TransQuip Fire Stryker is certified for five classes of fires – taking the guesswork out of tackling flames, and stopping them before they become something more serious, fast and without fuss. It’s ideal for all kinds of small fires, in their early stages.

TransQuip Fire Stryker extinguishes:

• A - wood and plastic,

• B - flammable and combustible liquids,

• C - flammable gasses,

• E - energized electrical equipment,

• F - cooking oil and fats.

Simple to use

As TransQuip’s Mark Townshend says, TransQuip Fire Stryker is essentially the exact opposite of a match. “As the name suggests, you take off the yellow cap, strike the top of the fire safety stick, and direct it at the seat of the fire. Then just keep it there until the fire is out. TransQuip Fire Stryker is that quick and easy to deploy.”

How it works

At ignition, the extinguishing charge produces a potassium aerosol jet that lasts for approximately 100 seconds (1.6 minutes) , smothering the fire at its core.

Light and compact

The fire safety stick is lightweight and easy to store. You could even pop one in a vehicle glove box. In fact, we’d recommend it.

The TransQuip Fire Stryker weighs just 365 grams (for the FSS100). That’s roughly 10% of the weight of a typical 1kg powder extinguisher (2.2kg).

It also takes up very little space.

No servicing required

The cost of regular servicing (and remembering to get it done!) are often barriers to businesses using conventional fire extinguishers.

The TransQuip Fire Stryker doesn’t require a 3rd party professional service. All that’s recommended is regular visual check, which can be carried out by any responsible person.

It has up to 8 years’ shelf life from the date of manufacture.

Environmentally friendly

TransQuip Fire Strykers are not pressurised. The discharge produced from the Fire Safety Stick has neither global warming potential nor ozone depletion potential. So, you can be comfortable using it knowing you’re not adding harmful substances to the environment.

TransQuip Fire Strykers are also easy to recycle, once discharged, in your domestic waste.

Safer for users, bystanders, and even pets!

Non-toxic, the fire safety stick’s activation doesn’t affect the breathing ability or sight of the person using it – even in a small room or confined space. It’s actually safe to breathe. That means it’s much safer, especially for anyone with asthma or other respiratory conditions. And, importantly, you can actually see what you’re doing!

And, if there are others nearby, no problems. (Though we’d advise keeping them back from the flames.)

Kiwi applications

New Zealanders have a thing about fire – everything from BBQs, and fire pits to bonfires. But there are situations where things can quickly get out of control, especially during high risk times of the year. Even one spark from farm machinery can escalate before you know it. And aside from damage, there’s liability to consider. Be prepared!

Durable and knock-proof

Accidentally drop a TransQuip Fire Stryker? That’s absolutely no problem. It’s not going to discharge accidentally. And the fire safety stick will take the odd knock that’s part of everyday life. That removes away a lot of the concern that many people have around conventional extinguishers. The TransQuip Fire Stryker will only work when you need it to.

No mess

TransQuip Fire Stryker is non-corrosive and does not leave behind any damaging mess or residue. That means cleaning up after a minor fire is much easier and the cost of downtime or replacements are drastically reduced, meaning you’re going to be forking out less.

What if the fire is escalating?

Always be cautious and sensible. Especially if there are potential ignition sources nearby. If the fire is out of control, and you do not feel safe, activate your TransQuip Fire Stryker anyway. It can give you, and others, time to escape safely – potentially saving lives. Leave it in the room or the confined space (e.g. a tumble dryer), where the fire is located. Leave the area as soon as you can, closing the door behind you. Then call 111 for the fire services, from a safe distance. The fire safety stick will continue to discharge and help slow the fire taking hold.
